Ernst Jaeger papers, 1950-1970

The collection comprises correspondence between Ernst Jaeger and Leni Riefenstahl, as well as photographs, screenplays, manuscripts and other correspondence from Jaeger, 1950s to 1970s. While the first part of the collection focuses on the relationship between Riefenstahl and her former collaborator and mentor, Jaeger, the second part mainly focuses on Jaeger's work in the US. The Reifenstahl materials provide insight into Riefenstahl's personal and financial worries, detail her tumultuous relationship with Jaeger, and reveal how Riefenstahl coped emotionally and financially with her unenvious status as a social pariah following Germany's World War II defeat. The Jaeger materials consist of several manuscripts for screenplays as well as Jaeger's personal and business correspondence; the latter highlight Jaeger's efforts in finding work and recognition in the film business.
